The Gaze

Oh, how it pains me to look into
the gaze that has seen all!

My spiteful sin, blatant rejection,
My pitiful fall.

Like a banner of defeat,
upon that forbidden tree,

His body draped lifeless,
For you, and for me.

Yet, In His excruciating pain,
when I am nowhere in sight,

He pictures me — and holds on
with all of His might.

Streams of tears from
His weary eyes drop,

Though His heartbeat might cease,
His relentless love will never stop.

Heaven holds its breath,
As does He,

“Oh my child,
if only you could see,

the love I have poured out for thee.”
